eTutor Key Features

Interactive Web Based Delivery

Develop interactive programs through the Learning Management Web and deliver them to a few participants or thousands over the Internet/Intranet.  The Electronic Instructor's Guide helps facilitators control interactive delivery with rich, multimedia content with live audio, and video.

Conversational Audio Over the Network

The eTutor facilitator can call on any participant in the session or respond to a call from a participant in the calling queue.  All participants can hear both the facilitator and the caller.  Since CADE audio is transmitted at 1.6kb, even dial-up participants will hear the instructor as clearly as those connected to a high-speed network.  All that is necessary is a connection to the network and a multimedia PC.

Push Rich Media Files to Participants

The eTutor Guide can cause a wide range of information to be displayed on each participant's computer screen:  Web pages, PowerPoint slides, video animation, graphics, documents, spreadsheets... virtually anything that can be displayed in a browser or Windows Media Player can be shown.

Facilitator Led Web Tours

The eTutor Facilitator can open web pages from the Instructor's Guide or simply by entering a URL and take all the participants on a web tour.  Wherever the Facilitator goes, the participants see the same page.

Issue More Types of Questions - Including Text and Audio

eTutor allows the eTutor Guide to issue the same types of questions as the satellite based product: True/False, Yes/No, Multiple Choice, Multiple selection, Numeric.  In addition, participants can respond to questions by typing sentences or paragraphs.  A histogram of Participant responses can be shown on all the eTutor Desktop screens.

eTutor can also allow the facilitator to record audio questions, solicit recorded audio responses, or a combination of both!

Brainstorming with Virtual Post-It Notes

eTutor can open a brainstorming session in the Participant's Desktop windows.  Participants can post electronic ideas or suggestions and discuss their reasoning with everyone in the session.  Any number of votes can be given to each participant to rank and assign points to the various contributions.  Results are stored in the database for further analysis.

Record an Audio Question

Participants can optionally choose to record and audio question if, for any reason, the Facilitator can't answer their question live.  The question can be answered by the Facilitator or SME using the Learning Management Web after the session.

Bi-Directional Video via IP

Send the eTutor's video to all participants and allow participants with webcams to send video to the facilitator and all other participants.  Highly compressed video only requires 7kb or bandwidth and even works with dial-up connections.

Alternate Full-Screen Video

Should high-quality, full-screen video be desired, eTutor will open a full sized video window so Participants can see detailed images of what is being presented.  Broadcasts can be encoded in real-time at a variety of data rates and used for live, interactive Sessions.

Send an Instant Message or Chat

The Facilitator and Participants can open a chat window at any time to instant message all people in the eTutor session, individuals, or selected groups.  However, only the Facilitator can open all Participant's chat windows on command.  Each chat session thread can be managed individually.

Send E-Mail

In addition to instant messaging, Participants may choose to send an e-mail or send the message to the participant's Inbox in the Learning Management Web.  This type of message can be sent to all Participants, individuals, or groups.

Interactive Whiteboard

The eTutor Guide and Participants can share an interactive whiteboard an mark up with colors, shapes, text, font sizes, etc.  Graphic images can be displayed behind the whiteboard so it can be marked up.

Share Applications

The eTutor facilitator can share applications from PCs, Unix/Linux, or Macs with the participants and each can take control and use the application.

Facilitator Peek

The eTutor facilitator can "peek" over the shoulder of any participant and take control of their display, keyboard, and mouse to show them how to perform a task if necessary.

Session Specific Workspace

A Session specific workspace is automatically created for each Session that can be used to transfer files, documents, or Session materials for everyone in the Session to access.  Both Participants and Hosts can transfer files to the workspace.

Team Delivery

An eTutor Session may be hosted by one or more people physically located in different places anywhere in the world.  This allows the session to be shared by a presenter, instructor, or subject matter expert and given by only the most knowledgeable people on the Session topic.  There is no limit to the number of hosts in an eTutor Session.

Breakout Sessions

The eTutor facilitator can create any number of breakout sessions and either manually select participants for each session or allow the system to distribute them randomly into the number of sessions desired.  Leaders can be selected either manually or randomly as well.  Breakout sessions can be focused on a single topic or each session on a different topic.

Activity Timer

The eTutor Guide can ask the Participants to engage in a timed exercise.  A countdown clock can be displayed on Participant's screens so they know how much time remains for their activity.

Ad-Hoc Remote PC Controls

eTutor provides the Host with a wide range of capabilities outside of the Instructor's Guide.  They may wish to open a web page on all the eTutor Desktops, play a rich media file, run a program, or open the audio controls so the audio levels can be adjusted.  The number of function that can be performed by the Host is virtually unlimited.

Audio via POTS

For those situations where IP audio is not desired, eTutor can be connected to the telephone system (POTS).  A non-modem device is used at the facilitator's end that connects the phone system into eTutor.  Participants can call the facilitator with a standard phone and their audio is incorporated into the session for all to hear.

Scheduling via MS Outlook™ or the LMW

Developers have a choice when it comes to scheduling an eTutor session.  Sessions may be scheduled in Outlook or in the LMW.  Participants are notified automatically of any change in schedule or if there is a cancellation.

Customer Branding

Since eTutor is part of the CADE Learning Management Web, the logos, colors, graphics, fonts, etc. can be customized to match any customer's appearance.  Different schemes can be applied for different groups or divisions based on an individual's identification.

Record Any Session

eTutor Sessions can be recorded and replayed at a later time.  An archive of eTutor sessions is accessible in the Learning Management Web.  Any of these sessions can be rerun so they can be reused over and over.

Multiple eTutor Servers

eTutor sessions may only include a few people or thousands located all over the world.  To accommodate this rapidly changing demand, both in a single session or throughout multiple sessions, the eTutor system uses a dynamically spawned set of eTutor server services.
