Using eTutor without an Instructor's Guide

On occasion it may be desirable to start an eTutor Session quickly to hold a on-line meeting or web conference.  The meeting organizer may not have the time or the need to create an Instructor's Guide for this type of an on-line event.

Creating an eTutor Instructor's Guide is not a requirement for holding an eTutor Session.  Sessions can be started at any time without first creating a Guide.  When this is done, the eTutor Host screen will default to the eTutor Controls page rather than the guide.  The Facilitator is still able to initiate many of the standard functions:

  • Send the Facilitator's audio and video
  • Call on Participants or answer Participant Calls
  • Chat to individuals, groups, or all Participants
  • Share Applications or Peek at a Participant's screen
  • Transfer and share materials from the session directory
  • Use the Whiteboard
  • Use the Signal function
  • Open breakout sessions

But in addition to the standard eTutor functions, the eTutor Controls page will allow the Facilitator to perform many of the Guide functions but in an ad-hoc fashion:

  • Open a web page in the eTutor Desktop of all Participants
  • Open a web page in a new browser
  • Open the whiteboard with a specific graphic image for the background
  • Open a text file on the Facilitator's PC
  • Send text and HTML formatted text to the Desktops
  • Search the web for specific information

While you can't capture responses to formalized questions in the CADE database, this type of event is still recorded in the schedule and all attendance is captured.
