Simple Process from Start to Finish!
Creating, delivering, and reusing course content in the CADE system is as
easy as it can possibly be. In this short storyboard, we'll take a look at
what it takes to:
- Create an IDL course and Instructor's Guide from PowerPoint
- Deliver a live, IDL course via a satellite broadcast
- Concurrently deliver the same course via an IP connection
- Record the broadcast as seen at the remote sites
- Re-enact the course to a variety of different audiences
- On-Demand to the classroom
- On-Demand to the Desktop
- Automated delivery via satellite based on schedule
Keep in mind, while this describes the process for creating and delivering a
satellite broadcast, the process for creating an eTutor course or lesson is
nearly identical.
Create Course & Instructor Guide from PowerPoint
Learn.Net's PowerPoint Add-in allows you to create a new course
and/or lesson and an Instructor Guide directly from a PowerPoint
presentation. Simply fill out the form, click the upload button, and a
course and Instructor Guide are created in the CADE database.
You can modify any of the information through the web-based interface
or use the course immediately in an interactive satellite broadcast.
The Learn.Net Add-in does so much more. For a full description,
see "PPT Add-In Help" under More Information in the left of this
page. |
 |
Broadcast Immediately
Simply start the CADE Studio Control program and select your newly
created course from the course list.
The Instructor's Guide is displayed and allows you to navigate through
the course simply by clicking the next button. Each component of the Guide
was a PowerPoint slide from the presentation. Notes are displayed as Guide
Text and comments are stored as Transition Statements. Those slides in the
PowerPoint that didn't have any text will be displayed as the instructor's
talking head. |
 |
Record the Broadcast
The broadcast can be recorded exactly as it was received on the TVs at
each remote location. Simply click the record button and the recorded
broadcast can be used later for:
- Pre-recorded, interactive broadcasts
- On-Demand to the Classroom
- On-Demand to the Desktop
|
 |
Concurrently Stream the Video
The encoder takes the same audio/video input that is fed to the
satellite uplink and encodes it in real-time to a media server.
The media server is typically located where there is sufficient
bandwidth available to service all connected clients. Its latency is
about the same as the satellite downlink so both satellite viewers and
streaming viewers have a similar experience. |
 |
Switch Video via Instructor's Guide
As the presenter moves from component to component in the Instructor's
Guide, commands are sent to the video switch in the control room to
automatically change to the proper video source: camera, slide, overhead,
DVD, etc.
Utilizing this feature drastically reduces the need for tight
coordination and can reduce the number of people required in the control
room. |
 |
Recorded Program Storage/Stream
The recorded broadcast can be stored in a central location, in a
Content Distribution Network (CDN), or transmitted to each remote location
for local storage. Learn.Net has partnered with Kencast to transfer files
of this type over the satellite connection. The program's events are
stored in the CADE database so they can be used to issue questions in
synch with the video as if it were live. |
 |
| On-Demand to the Classroom The recorded program can be used
to deliver the same, interactive course experience to classrooms on
demand. For example, 2nd or 3rd shifts could watch the recorded program
and interact as if it were live. Questions are issued in synch with the
video, attendance and scores are recorded in the database, audio questions
can be recorded which will be answered by the instructor or SME later. All
results become part of the learner's permanent training history. |
 |
On-Demand to the Desktop
The same recorded program can be requested On-demand by an individual
anywhere they have access to the web. Again, attendance and responses are
automatically graded and recorded in the database, questions issued in
synch with the video, and learners can record audio questions for the
instructor or SME to answer at a later time. |
 |
Pre-Recorded, Interactive Delivery
The recorded program can also be scheduled for delivery by satellite.
At the designated time, a Studio Control program is automatically launched
and the program broadcast by satellite. This allows the program to be
re-broadcast many times without needing a live instructor and yet appears
to be a live, interactive program.
All information is recorded in the database just as it was in a live
broadcast. |
