Engine Parts

We got the reconditioned parts back from Aircraft Specialties on April 16th.  Man, do they look good.  We got lucky.  They only had to red tag four hydraulic units, everything else was reconditioned, rebushed, cad plated, and ready to go.  So fun to have so many yellow tags.

Now its time to look at the parts we need to order since we know what was good and what was not.  Ok, we'll make a list and then go shopping.

4 SL5401-SC Piston Ring set
1 SL75439-1 Major overhaul gasket set
1 SL12038 Top overhaul gasket set
2 AEL13884 M03 Bearing - Crankshaft front
4 SL11021 Bearing - Crankshaft
1 LW13792 Oil seal ring
8 SL13521A M03 Rod Bearings
1 SL-STD-2213 Crank Screw
8 SL75061 Rod Bolts
8 SL12186 Rod Nuts
4 SL-STD-1821 Return Hose
4 SL69603 Intake Hose

Engine Cases

We got the reconditioned engine cases back from Divco on April 21st.  Pretty impressive process that included the following:

Cases are disassembled and cleaned thoroughly by an industrial chemical wash process
Cases are inspected for Deck height thickness, Cracks, Repairability
Cracks are ground out in their entirety
Cases are preheated prior to welding
After welding, cases are reheated for stress relief
All raw weld areas are dressed and remachined to factory specifications
Mating surfaces are machined
Crankcases are torqued
Crankcases are line honed
Gear lash is corrected
Crankcases are re-inspected
Crankcases are cleaned and alodined

And all for one low price!  Actually, not too bad.  Check them out if you ever need this kind of work.

So here's a good look at the offending part... that nasty little crack that started it all.  They welded it inside and out, dressed, and then heat treated again.  They also found a crack right behind this picture on the center cam journal and made it right too.

Cylinders

Well... didn't do nearly as good as I had hoped.  One cylinder needed to be replaced because it was out of specification and another had a small crack.  Not too happy about that.  So, we replace the one, repaired the other, and refurbished the rest.

New intake valves
New exhaust valves
New valve guides
Reground the valve seats
Higher compression springs (100 lbs)
Inspected, painted
Yellow-tagged... 4 more for the collection
